Custom Gaging Saves Time and Money

Off the shelf gaging might seem like it is an inexpensive way to reduce gaging costs. Spinning through an on line catalog you will find all kinds of simple electronic and dial indicator gages that work as hand held gages or bench mounted gages. Some of these gages even collect data. When they first hit the market, they were a huge improvement over traditional hand gages. If there is an application where an operator has one dimension to check and there is plenty of time to check parts, this could be a solution that will save money.

Off the shelf gaging usually only checks one dimension at a time. Custom gaging can combine many dimensional and concentricity characteristics greatly reducing the number of gages needed and most importantly, reducing the time it takes to check each part. Custom gages can now be programmed to store data, give feedback to machinery, provide SPC information to a quality lab, and track frequency of inspection. They are even able to mark bad parts for sorting safety.

Custom gaging is now more flexible and the electronics are recyclable. Custom gages used to be difficult to recycle. The new generation of custom gages built by Birdsall Tool & Gage reduces the conversion costs and part print changes.

Send us your part prints and needs and we will help you combine checks and reduce your total cost of gaging.
